Missionary Baw Ney in Thailand

I heard a story about Pastor Baw Ney who said that before Christianity the Karen were like the Hebrews of Israel. I made plans to go and find him although I knew he was old and retired from his church with his son Timothy taking the leadership. I made plans in February to go to Thailand and people kept telling me the time was not right. In March I decided to stop listening to people and bought my ticket.

The ticket was a miracle as I was given a 6 month visa instead of a one month. When I arrived in Thailand I found out he had passed on to glory before I could meet him. I was so sad, but eventually I found his church and met his son Timothy. I also was introduced to the older man who had been one of his converts --maybe the last one who remembered Pastor Baw Ney.

His story was wonderful. He was a young man when he accepted Jesus Christ and some of the older Christians encouraged him to get some training in Evangelism which he did and then following in Jesus footsteps he traveled for 5 days on foot into the mountains where he began to teach the children traditional Karen songs and poems. Eventually the older people became interested and his church began in Musikee. He and others who came to help evangelized many of the surrounding villages.

At the time I was there he had a vibrant church with young people with a large congregation which was led by many of the young students as Pastor Timothy had gone to begin another sister church. You could feel the vibrant life of this church and the joy just filled your spirit to overflowing.

As I did some of the research I believe his father and mother were saved in one of the villages of Ban Thet or Ban Nok our Ban Ka in muang Lampang. This story you can find under “Nats and Evil Spirits and Maung Htwe” God did such a miracle with Maung Htwe as he just read the Bible. This church was so vibrant under the direction of the Holy Spirit and I saw this in Baw Ney’s church and it seems so evident that this is a continuation of the Holy Spirit’s work.

This man was saved under Pastor Baw Ney and is still alive today!
